How does the settlement algorithm work?
We calculate each person's net balance (total paid minus their fair share). People who paid more than average are owed money; those who paid less owe money. We then use a greedy algorithm to match the largest debtor to the largest creditor, minimizing the total number of payment transactions needed.
Is my data saved anywhere?
No. Everything runs entirely in your browser. No data is sent to our servers, and nothing is saved after you close the tab. Your financial data stays completely private.
Can I split an expense among only some people?
Yes — when adding an expense you can choose exactly who it's split among using the 'Split Among' selector. For example, if only 3 of 5 people drank beer, uncheck the non-drinkers and the cost is divided only among those 3. The payer gets fully reimbursed by the others.
What's the maximum number of participants?
There's no hard limit — you can add as many participants as needed. The settlement algorithm works for any group size.
